After working in Haiti for over 19 years, has witnessed how vital clean water is to the success of all development efforts. In January of 2007, became aware of solar powered UV water purification systems that could be installed in rural or urban areas to provide 500 gallons of clean drinking water daily. After researching the systems, officially launched its Clean Water Initiative with the help of our dedicated donors in March of 2007. The first system was successfully installed in July of that year. has the goal of installing 14 systems in partner program locations (orphanages, schools, and clinics) by the end of 2009. This goal will help provide 7,000 gallons of purified drinking water a day and over 2.5 million gallons a year to Haitian men, women, and children, who otherwise would lack clean water to drink.
To provide clean dependable drinking water to Haitian communities.

According to the World Poverty Index, Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, has some of the worst water in the world, ranking last in water quality. The majority of Haiti’s population of roughly 9 million people lack accessible, affordable, and safe potable water. Clean water is essential for all facets of life, proving the foundation for a country’s development – the health of her people. Currently, the country’s primary purification method is through the use of chlorine/Clorox, which has proven to be the cheapest solution to the water crisis. Unfortunately, however, this method of providing safe water cannot guarantee the disinfection of all harmful bacteria and viruses found in the water supply, in addition, to the unknown health effects of the chemicals themselves. Ultra-Violet provides an alternative, safe, dependable method that is guaranteed to kill all bacteria and viruses up to 99.999%.

The systems that installs to our partner locations are truly unique to Haiti. The solar powered UV water purification systems provide energy independent, chemical free, 99.999% purified drinking water to local communities. These systems can produce over 500 gallons of purified drinking water each day and can be modified or adapted to accept any source of water for a specific location (i.e. river, well, or rain water retention). The systems require a minimum amount of maintenance that can be completed by the local community members. All water systems are installed by trained staff and visited on a continual basis to ensure proper use and functioning. Along with every installation the community recipients receive an education in the importance of clean drinking water, UV purification, solar power, hygiene, system maintenance, and proper sanitation.
