Meet Juliette, Mother and Pillar of Her Community

Dear Hope for Haiti Family,

In this edition of our newsletter, we’re proud to highlight one of our healthcare partners in Haiti, Maison de Naissance, who we work with to provide maternal care for expecting mothers. Maison de Naissance, which translates to “Home of Birth,” is part of the Global Birthing Home Foundation, supporting healthy mothers and babies in Haiti.

As part of Hope for Haiti’s Gift-In-Kind and Healthcare programs, we work with donors who provide medications, vitamins, and healthcare supplies, which we import and distribute to appropriate healthcare providers in Haiti. This helps locally led organizations maintain a supply chain for treating their patients. We currently partner with 60 in-country healthcare providers, ensuring this valuable medication reaches those in need throughout southern Haiti.

There is currently an acute shortage of medication and medical supplies contributing to Haiti’s ongoing humanitarian crisis. We urgently need your help to raise $55,000 to deliver life-saving medications and supplies to our team, who will distribute them at our clinic (the Infirmary St. Etienne), mobile clinics, and our partner healthcare facilities across southern Haiti, where they will ultimately benefit the children and families through clinics like Maison de Naissance.

Here’s a story from one of Maison de Naissance’s patients:

Uplifting Communities Through Maternal Healthcare

Juliette Delva is an agronomist in Pelerin Torbeck who is dedicated to helping the families in her community. She teaches them to grow food so they can help support themselves. She is also expecting her first child.

“At the beginning of my pregnancy, I experienced intense morning sickness and pain, making me unable to work,” shared Juliette.

Juliette’s sister recommended that she visit Maison de Naissance for treatment because the nurses and other team members treated her with immense care and respect when she had her appointment. Another benefit was that the medications were free, making seeking treatment much more feasible, as covering the costs of consultation and medications is typically challenging. Many patients in Haiti put off seeking a doctor because they can’t afford the treatment.

“Once I received the prenatal vitamins, and the nurse instructed me on how to take them, I started feeling much better and I’m able to eat now,” said Juliette.

We caught up with Juliette during her monthly check-up at the clinic earlier this week, where the midwife informed her that she and the baby were both healthy. Since taking the vitamins, Juliette has felt good enough to get back to work and continue supporting not only her family but also the community members who rely on her gardening expertise.

“I want to thank Hope for Haiti for providing the free prenatal medications I was able to receive from Clinic Maison de Naissance,” said Juliette.
