We Need Your Help Getting Medication to Patients

By August 4, 2025No Comments

In response to Haiti’s ongoing humanitarian crisis, Hope for Haiti is continuing to meet urgent needs while investing in long-term, community-led solutions.

A lack of infrastructure between Haiti’s capital city, Port-au-Prince, and Les Cayes has long posed a challenge for transporting goods and supplies, as only one paved road connects the cities.

However, amid the continued violence and insecurity in the capital, shipping these vital medications has become more difficult, dangerous, and expensive for our team. In fact, many other organizations working in Haiti have not been able to continue their medication distribution efforts like we have, impacting the already strained healthcare supply chain.

We’re still able to get shipments from partners like Direct Relief and Map International to Port-au-Prince; the difficulty is transporting them from there to the Sud Department. Our team has had to rely on our multi-year relationships with community leaders and creative problem-solving to ensure the medications get to Les Cayes.

Recently, thanks to our partners Map International, Direct Relief, and Americares, shipments containing children’s cough and pain medication, oral rehydration solution, antibiotics, antiviral medication, cancer medication, and more were successfully delivered to our healthcare supply depot, and the medicines have begun to be distributed to the patients who need them. There are also vital shipments on the way south from CMMB and Solar for Life.

Fifty-five-year-old Letang Jean Ednor is one of the many patients who directly benefit from our GIK partners’ support. He recently visited Hope for Haiti’s Infirmary St. Etienne and received Metformin (used to regulate blood glucose), Diclofenac sodium topical gel (for arthritis pain relief), and a glucometer to better manage his type 2 diabetes, thanks to our latest shipment from Direct Relief.

“I am deeply grateful to those who donated these good medications to us, and words fail to fully express my gratitude,” said Letang. “Without this medication, I would already be dead. Thank you.”

Without your support, our team wouldn’t be able to transport these life-saving medications to patients like Letang. With your help today, our team on the ground in Haiti can:

  • Import, transport, and distribute shipments of critical medications to our network of 67 healthcare partners, as well as our clinic and mobile clinics.
  • Provide treatments for chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and hypertension, that impact thousands of adults.
  • Deliver essential medications for children, ensuring their health and future.
