Back to School Season Kicks Off in Haiti
While most schools across the U.S. are well underway, classrooms in Haiti open their doors to students each year at the beginning of October.
Our Education team members have been working closely with leaders from our 24 partner schools in southern Haiti to prepare for the re-opening of classrooms, including delivering basic classroom supplies (pictured).
While heavy rains caused moderate flooding and a slight delay of the school year’s kick-off, each school is now up and running.
Romel Jean-Pierre, Interim Education Manager/Curriculum and Training Specialist, shared, “The start of the school year was a success! All our [partner] schools have opened their doors and the children returned to their classrooms.”
In our ongoing effort to support educators, the Education team is also hosting the first teacher trainer workshops of the year later this month.
Hope for Haiti’s Education program supports about 7,000 students and 380 teachers annually, ensuring that Haiti’s next generation has access to safe, child-friendly learning environments. You can help empower students by making a gift today!

Angeline’s Journey from Scholarship to Service
When Angeline walked across the stage in her cap and gown, surrounded by family and friends, it was more than a graduation — it was a celebration of resilience, hope, and the power of education to transform lives.
“As members of Hope for Haiti’s Education Department, we were filled with immense joy and gratitude watching her beam with pride,” said Romel Jean-Pierre, Interim Education Manager/Curriculum and Training Specialist.
“Knowing her story, her economic hardships, her perseverance through obstacles, and her unwavering determination, made the moment even more meaningful.”
Angeline’s journey with Hope for Haiti began as a scholarship recipient, but it didn’t end there. After completing her studies, she joined the Education team as a program assistant intern for six months. During that time, she strengthened her leadership and organizational skills, showcased her creativity, and became a valued member of the team. Her energy and commitment inspired everyone around her.
Recognizing World Breast Cancer Day
In Haiti, more than 3.6 million women are at risk of developing breast, cervical, and other cancers that affect women. Yet, in many communities, access to screening and early detection remains out of reach.
Most screening facilities are located in Port-au-Prince, hours away and potentially inaccessible to women living in the Sud Department. Options are few, but hope is growing.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re immensely grateful to partners like the Prevent Cancer Foundation and generous supporters like you, who are enabling our Healthcare team to change that story.
Through our Infirmary St. Etienne in Les Cayes and mobile clinics in rural communities, our talented Haitian doctors, nurses, and Community Health Workers are bringing life-saving care, education, and hope to women across southern Haiti.
When women have access to early detection, they have a fighting chance.
