Digital Cash Assistance Program Supports Mothers in Haiti, Local Economy

By June 5, 2026No Comments

In partnership with VIA Sciences and the Stellar Development Foundation, Hope for Haiti has launched another iteration of our digital cash assistance (DCA) program, directly supporting mothers in southern Haiti. Mothers in the program recently began receiving monthly digital cash transfers to their digital wallets, enabling them to purchase household necessities from local vendors, providing aid while bolstering the local economy.

“Before this support, things were very difficult for my family,” said one participating mother of three. “Sometimes, I didn’t know how I would feed my children. Life was very stressful before.”

With these direct cash transfers, participants have the option to either shop at participating vendors and make purchases using their digital wallets or to visit a bank to cash out the digital funds and shop that way. This way of providing monthly stipends has proven to be faster and more convenient for all parties, without compromising transparency.

The impact goes far beyond financial assistance. Families are experiencing greater stability, improved nutrition, and renewed hope for their children’s future. Today, hundreds of mothers are using VIA Wallet to replace the daily stress of financial uncertainty with the confidence and ease that comes from knowing the resources for their child’s health and nutrition are secure.

Thank you, additionally, to OwlPay Harbor, MoneyGram, and Circle (the company behind USDC) for making this innovative project possible and providing a variety of ways for these mothers to access their funds, whether they prefer to cash out and shop or make digital transfers. Hope for Haiti is thrilled to working with these partners to expand access to digital finance in Haiti, where it is clear that a use case exists for utilizing cryptocurrency and the blockchain for humanitarian aid.
