An Update from CEO Skyler Badenoch

Dear Hope for Haiti Family:

As the CEO of Hope for Haiti, I wanted to take a moment to update you on the current situation in Haiti. The country is facing unprecedented challenges mostly concentrated in Port au Prince, where unrest and gang violence is on the rise, exacerbating widespread life-threatening food insecurity, and slowing down recovery efforts from the devastating 2021 earthquake in southern Haiti.

Despite these challenges, I want to assure you that our team in Haiti remains fully committed to our mission of improving the lives of the Haitian people, particularly women and children. We have been working tirelessly for 34 years in Haiti, and we are determined to keep our vital programs running safely, even in the face of these obstacles.

If you’ve been following recent news out of Haiti, you may have seen a narrative taking shape alluding that there is no hope for Haiti and that zero positive impact is being made on the ground. This is simply not true. While current issues have made life and work more difficult for our team and the people we serve, they do not change Hope for Haiti’s long-term commitment to improving the lives of the Haitian people, particularly women and children. Our mission has never been more important, and our team in Haiti continues to use lessons learned over our 34-year history in-country to find ways to safely navigate these challenges and keep our vital programs running.

Last month, I had the privilege of traveling to Haiti to inaugurate a new 7-classroom school completed in collaboration with the Digicel Foundation. During my visit, we marched in solidarity with 600 women from Les Cayes for International Women’s Day, and we hiked 2.5 hours into the mountains with Hope for Haiti’s healthcare team to conduct a mobile clinic for 200 children, parents, and grandparents. This experience was a powerful reminder of the incredible impact that our work has on the lives of those we serve.

Despite the challenges, our programs are fully operational, and our work continues. For example, the patient load at our Infirmary St. Etienne and mobile clinics has increased by 427% from 2020 through 2022 and continues to grow, despite significant structural damage sustained by our infirmary during the earthquake. As our operating costs in-country have greatly increased, we need your support now more than ever. > Donate Now

Your gifttoday will help ensure that children and families have continuity in access to education, healthcare, clean water, and economic development services.

Please take a moment to read the latest updates on the incredible impact our team has been making in recent weeks. Additionally, I encourage you to follow us on social media, where we strive to share near-daily updates on our work.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity.

Sincerely,

Skyler Badenoch

CEO, Hope for Haiti

Our Education team recently celebrated the inauguration of the Paul VI school in Vieux Bourg D’Aquin – a rural community in southern Haiti. Hope for Haiti, in partnership with the Digicel Foundation, reconstructed this primary school after it was damaged during the 2021 earthquake that devastated southern Haiti. To celebrate the school’s completion, the community gathered to watch the students perform and hear inspiring messages from school and community leaders. > Support Education

Mobile Clinic Milestone

This March, the Healthcare team hosted 29 mobile clinics and held more than 5,000 patient consultations! For each mobile clinic, the Hope for Haiti team travels to a rural community in southern Haiti. For some families, our clinic in Les Cayes is their closest healthcare option, and they may not be able to make that trip. Your support allows us to continue bringing vital healthcare to Haitian children, parents, and grandparents, in their own communities. > Support Healthcare

In case you missed it, check out this video of our team’s trip to Île à Vache for a nutrition-focused mobile clinic.

Hygiene Kits Arrive in Les Cayes

From New York > to Naples > to Les Cayes

It can be very difficult to access hygiene supplies in parts of rural southern Haiti, putting more individuals at risk for illnesses like cholera. Thanks to our Gift In-Kind partner, CMMB, a large delivery of personal hygiene kits were donated to Hope for Haiti. The team has been distributing these kits to community members from our office and Infirmary St. Etienne in Les Cayes.
