The word from the front lines was that the efforts are working, and having an effect.
At the Hope for Haiti “Back to Our Roots” event Saturday evening at the Naples Sailing & Yacht Club, keynote speaker Sister Denise Desil of the Little Sisters of St. Therese, clad in a dove-gray habit and wimple, addressed the dining room full of contributors in her Creole-infused English. Sister Denise had traveled from Baraderes, Haiti, to tell the group how the help and the dollars they give have impacted the lives of people in her island nation.
“At one time we were flat down. Now, with your help, we get up,” she said.
