ATTLEBORO – Students from Bishop Feehan High School have brightened the walls and the lives of seniors living in an elder care facility in Haiti.
The students created 29 pieces of artwork here in Attleboro and that artwork is now on display at Foyer St. Etienne, a home for the elderly in Les Cayes, Haiti.
How the artwork got from Bishop Feehan to the Caribbean country more than 1,500 miles away is a story of community service, international relations, perseverance and love.
The idea for the project came from three sisters from Norton, Bridget Mulligan, 18; Catherine “Cammie” Mulligan, 16; and Patrice Mulligan, 14. They started an organization, Cards Across The Ocean, in 2012 that creates and sends hand-crafted Christmas cards to needy people around the world.
The girls contacted Hope for Haiti, a charity based in Florida, about their Christmas card project and Hope for Haiti connected them with Foyer Ste. Etienne, one of the facilities the Haiti charity supports. Many of the residents there have no family and are in poor health.
