A Second Chance at Childhood – Celebrating World Heart Day

By September 28, 2025No Comments

Six-year-old Donalcia has always been full of energy and light, despite the challenges her family faces each day. Living in a modest shelter with her mother, stepfather, and siblings, she is surrounded by love, courage, and determination.

This spring, Donalcia’s health took a serious turn. What seemed like a small illness became something much more urgent. But thanks to Hope for Haiti’s Infirmary St. Etienne and referral program, she received the specialized care she needed completely free of charge.

Doctors diagnosed Donalcia with tuberculosis, which had affected her lungs and her heart. With the right medicines, careful monitoring, and life-saving hospital treatment arranged by the Referral team, she began to recover.

After more than a month in the hospital, Donalcia returned home stronger, breathing freely, and ready to continue her rest and recovery. Her bright smile today is proof that, with access to healthcare, children in Haiti can overcome incredible odds.

On World Heart Day, we celebrate stories like Donalcia’s. They remind us that every act of generosity makes a difference, turning fear into hope, sickness into healing, and struggle into strength.

When you give, you’re not only supporting treatment, you’re giving children the chance to grow, to learn, and to thrive.

Donate today to help more children like Donalcia get the care they deserve.
