A Message About the Haiti WE Know – Letter from Skyler Badenoch, Hope for Haiti CEO

Dear Hope for Haiti Friends and Family,
January 12th is a poignant day in Haiti’s history, and in solidarity with the Haitian people, I want to recognize our AMAZING colleagues in Haiti who are the heart and soul of Hope for Haiti. Our team is comprised of talented and hard working doctors, nurses, educators, accountants, technicians, drivers, cooks, engineers, masons, and administrators. Their work improves the quality of life for more than 500,000 people annually, and they are what sets Hope for Haiti apart.

Reflecting on the 8th Anniversary of the Haiti Earthquake, it’s crystal clear that Hope for Haiti’s growth and success would not have been possible without the dedication of our Haiti team and your support. In solidarity with all of our Haitian partners, Hope for Haiti will be observing an organization wide moment of silence at 4:53 p.m. EST, and we invite you to do the same.

I’d also like to share a few words that I wrote in my journal in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 quake that still ring true today:

“I’ve witnessed some of the worst that mother nature and mankind have to offer up, and I have seen the Haitian people respond with dignity, humanity, and more courage than I thought possible. Haiti is a country whose fabric is woven tightly with each thread of the human experience with patterns reflecting happiness and sadness, tranquility and chaos, crippling poverty and extravagant wealth, suffering and bliss, but most importantly, hope and perseverance. On many occasions, I’ve wrapped myself in this intricate, frayed fabric and learned the most valuable lessons of humanity. For that, I am humbled and honored to be a small part of Haitian solidarity.”

Let’s always remember this day for the true heroes who stepped up to support the people of Haiti during a time of great need.
