Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Don-Diègue Massillon

Don-Diègue is the oldest of a single-parent family of four children. His mother, Marie-Gerline, who was a laundress, lost her job when the guest house she worked in collapsed during the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit southern Haiti on August 14, 2021. Since then, life has been tough for the family, but Don-Diègue has hope.

Thanks to a Hope for Haiti college scholarship, he is studying to be a civil engineer—something he always dreamed of. Don-Diègue is passionate about architecture and design and is thrilled to be pursuing his long-time dream of becoming an engineer.

“I am thankful to Hope for Haiti who, through that scholarship, has given me hope for a better future. I can’t really ask for more,” said Don-Diègue.

Recognizing World Menstrual Hygiene Day

Today, millions of people around the world are stigmatized and discriminated against simply because they menstruate. World Menstrual Hygiene Day, on May 28, was created to destigmatize menstruation, raise awareness about the challenges many face in accessing menstrual products, and educate about menstruation and period-friendly sanitation.

Our Public Health team spent the day sharing menstruation factoids, sanitation and comfort tips, and menstrual products in rural southern Haiti as part of the movement.
