Major Healthcare Program Updates

As we say goodbye to fiscal year 2023 and welcome a new year of goals and opportunities, we’re happy to share some exciting updates from our Healthcare Program, which includes primary care, mobile clinics, public health education and nutrition, diabetes care management, and healthcare supply chain management.

Celebrating 128,000+ Consultations in FY23

Our fiscal year is over and the numbers are in — our Healthcare team conducted more than 128,000 patient consultations this year! Our number of patient consultations has grown steadily for the past few years, with an average of about 600 patients per day being treated between our Infirmary St. Etienne in Les Cayes and our mobile clinics.

Without your support, we couldn’t provide this life-changing care to children, parents, and grandparents in southern Haiti. Thank you for helping our team provide medication, wellness exams and screenings, chronic illness treatment, wound care, and more for hundreds of thousands of individuals in southern Haiti.

“We can learn at any age. And with that knowledge, we can improve our financial situation,” said Elalio, a 60-year-old hypertensive patient who always accompanies his wife Maggy to our Diabetes Club meetings.

Our Healthcare team recently organized a three-day creative workshop where patients with diabetes used design principles and creativity to craft these bouquets together. Research has shown that group activities like this, as well as education and community support, are extremely helpful for those with diabetes to better manage and understand their treatment.Support Healthcare today.

Thanks to our Gift-In-Kind partner MAP International, our team recently delivered prenatal vitamins to Centre Hospitalier de Fontaine, a hospital operating in Cité Soleil, Haiti. Many clinics and hospitals in this area of Port-au-Prince have closed their doors, increasing Fontaine’s patient load significantly. By strategically sharing our resources, we’re able to partner with other healthcare organizations to benefit more children, parents, and grandparents than we could alone.

Changing Lives Through Proper Nutrition

Our team recently hosted a mobile clinic focused on nutrition in Gris-Gris, a small community in rural southern Haiti. Children were screened for malnutrition and provided medication and resources, as needed, to improve their nutritional health.

Malnutrition is described as a deficiency, excess, or imbalance of a wide range of nutrients, resulting in measurable adverse effects on body composition (Yale Institute for Global Health). Screening for and treating malnutrition is an important aspect of our healthcare program because of its harmful long-term effects and ability to be treated. Your gift helps improve the lives of children struggling with or at risk of malnutrition through this program.
