For children in Haiti, a simple illness can mean more than a day of feeling unwell. It can mean missing school, falling behind in class, and compounding stress for families who may already face barriers to accessing timely healthcare.
Hope for Haiti is working to change that through a new collaboration with MotoMeds, a pediatric telemedicine and medication delivery service designed to prevent pre-emergent illnesses from transitioning into emergencies at night, when children are most vulnerable and isolated. During the 2025–2026 school year, the MotoMeds program launched in three Hope for Haiti partner schools in the Les Cayes area, helping connect families, schools, and trusted community health workers.
The goal is simple: help children aged 10 years and under to access health support sooner, so illness is less likely to keep them out of school.

Through this partnership, Hope for Haiti has helped train community health workers on the MotoMeds program, introduced the service to Hope for Haiti staff, and hosted information sessions with parents, teachers, and school administrators. Teachers track student absences, and community health workers follow up with parents to better understand when illness is keeping a child home.
While research is a large part of this initiative, this approach is about more than collecting information–it’s about building a stronger support system for each child. Community health workers, who are essential liaisons between communities and healthcare providers/organizations, are helping families understand how to access MotoMeds, stay connected with schools, and receive follow-up information when a child misses class because they are sick.
Hope for Haiti will also support ongoing monitoring, monthly reporting, and home visits to learn what is working and where families may need additional help. By listening to parents, supporting schools, and tracking results, the program can continue improving over time.
For families in southern Haiti, this kind of partnership can make a meaningful difference. When children receive care sooner, they have a better chance of recovering quickly and returning to the classroom. When parents know where to turn, they can feel more supported. And when schools and community health workers work together, students are better positioned to learn, grow, and thrive.
Hope for Haiti’s collaboration with MotoMeds reflects our long-standing commitment to community health, education, and locally led solutions. With your support, we can continue helping families access the care and resources they need.
